Heart...

the women of heart

This band has always been my favorite. This album was a Christmas gift given to me by brother when I was 16 years old. Sounds corny, but this gift changed my life forever.

I grew up in Japan and had never heard music like this before. And the fact that two beautiful, strong women were writing and singing the music seemed so foreign to me. Yet, I was feeling what they were creating!

Recently, Heart's music, Barracuda, was used at the RNC as background music for VP nominee, Sarah Palin...without the group's permission. A cease-and-desist order was sent to the campaign and here is what the Wilson sisters had to say...

"Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."

For the next several months, my mind will be on the state of our politics. And I will be doing my darndest to make sure that positive, conscious change will occur in my country.

Yeah, I'm not sure if the Republicans really want to portray their "darling" as soulless, but at the same time I don't want to argue with that. :-)
